“AFCD?”

Many years ago I would fill out insertion orders for newspaper ads (yes, it must have been years ago), and in the Notes section, I would write “Far forward, right hand page, above the fold, AFCD.”

Every once in a while, I would get a phone call from the guys in the composing room, asking “I understand your requests, except what is AFCD?”

My answer, which often got me both a chuckle and a favorable position was, “A Fellow Can Dream?”

So this holiday season, may you have peace on earth, the warmth of family, and a spot on the top right of page 3. AFCD.

Could it also be AGCD? Sure. It’s not a gender-specific tactic.
